Phil Willis - opening ceremonyThe sixth Business Market organised by Harrogate Chamber of Trade & Commerce was voted a great success by exhibitors and visitors alike. The event was again held at Pavilions of Harrogate, on the Great Yorkshire Showground, just south of Harrogate town centre.

After a welcome by the Mayor of Harrogate, Councillor Pat Jones, the Yorkshire Business Market was opened once again by Phil Willis, the retiring MP for Harrogate & Knaresborough. He complimented the Chamber on their achievement in once again filling all the available space with a vibrant display of small and medium enterprises from all over Yorkshire and attracting a record number of visitors. He said that this was a clear demonstration of the success that our small businesses were having in recovering from the recession.

The four Exhibition Rooms in the Pavilions were thronged with business visitors, right from the opening at 11am until well past 5 pm. Many of them expressed appreciation for such a wide ranging display of local business products and services which was unmatched in the whole region. Visitors enjoyed free parking, free refreshments, free business seminars and a free Ask the Experts panel. Exhibitors had a hot breakfast, free refreshments all day and an evening drinks reception, aimed at maximising networking with other exhibitors.

The Chamber’s President Robert Whiteley said "It’s been a fantastic day to do business and everyone turned out in force. I’m very pleased with how the day has gone and I would say it’s been a huge success again."

Harrogate Chamber Chief Executive Brian Dunsby said "A total of 173 Exhibitors had booked display spaces with so many of them wanting larger spaces that they have taken up nearly all the space occupied by the 200 Exhibitors last year. This is good sign of their confidence in this event, the largest business-to-business exhibition in Yorkshire. Visitors were encouraged to pre-register on-line and over 1,400 did so, which was well up on last year. About half as many more registered on the day, taking the final total past 2,000, with visitors coming from all over Yorkshire and adjoining areas such as Derbyshire, Teesside and Lancashire."

The Business Market was sponsored by Business Link Yorkshire, Harrogate College and Yorkshire Forward, the Regional Development Agency. Enterprise Director at Yorkshire Forward Alex McWhirter explained; "Yorkshire Forward works with the public and private sector to grow the region’s economy. In the current climate, we are prioritising support for our region’s businesses and workforce, through practical business support, from finance to workforce development. And we’re committed to maintaining our region’s regeneration activities wherever possible, providing strategic leadership in dealing with the challenges currently facing the region, whilst continuing to invest in its long term sustainability."
